Carolina in my mind: Golden Eagles prep for Low Country Intercollegiate

Tech heads to Carolinas for second straight week

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Less than a week after completing play at the 2012 Pinehurst Challenge, Tennessee Tech will return to the Carolinas to compete in the Low Country Intercollegiate Sunday and Monday in Hilton Head, S.C.

The tournament is hosted by Wofford and will be held at Moss Creek Plantation.

The Golden Eagles finished 15th out of 17 teams in a strong field of competition at Pinehurst, one of the nation’s most renowned golf courses, last week. The Low Country Intercollegiate marks the third of six tournaments Tech will play in during its spring season.

The Golden Eagles played in the Low Country a season ago and finished 12th out of 14 teams behind Katy Beth Glover’s team-best finish of 82-81=163.

Tech will take five golfers to this year’s event, including Glover, Katherine Bell, Brandy VanEtten, Amber Shepherd and Amanda Randolph.  Bell has the low average on the team at 78.8 so far this season. VanEtten is close behind at 79.3.

The Low Country Intercollegiate will feature two 18-hole rounds on Sunday followed by a final 18 holes on Monday. Moss Creek Plantation plays to a par 72 and is 5,853 yards in length.

The field consists of 15 teams including the Golden Eagles. Also participating will be host squad Wofford, Brown, Princeton, The Citadel, Jacksonville, Western Kentucky, Bowling Green, Newberry, Gardner-Webb, USC Upstate, Presbyterian, Radford, Elon and Appalachian State.
