Bell leads Golden Eagles at Low Country Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Katherine Bell shot a first-round 81 to lead Tennessee Tech in the first round of the Low Country Intercollegiate on Sunday at Moss Creek Plantation. 

The Golden Eagles shot 341 as a team and go into Monday's final round in 15th place in a strong field of competition made up of clubs from throughout the East Coast and South. 

Bell shot 40 on the front nine and followed up with a 41 on the back nine to complete her first round. 

The rest of the Tech contingent consisted of Amber Shepherd (83), Brandy VanEtten (88), Amanda Randolph (89) and Katy Beth Glover (93). 

Appalachian State leads the tournament with a team score of 313 while a three-way first-place tie exists between Newberry's Maria Luz Besio, Wofford's Alex Hendricks and Princeton's Wonji Choi. All three players posted first-round scores of 73. 

Behind Appalachian State, the rest of the field is made up of Jacksonville (314), Radford (316), Newberry (316), Presbyterian (316), Elon (318), Gardner-Webb (320), Bowling Green State (322), Wofford (325), USC Upstate (327), Princeton (328), Brown (333), Western Kentucky (336), The Citadel (340) and Tennessee Tech (341).
