DICKSON, Tenn. -- Seniors Carley Rhyne and Lindsay Spradlen
played the final rounds of their Golden Eagle careers Saturday as
the Tennessee Tech women wrapped up play with a seventh-place
finish at the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Golf
Championships at GreyStone Golf Course in Dickson.
Morehead State, led by medalist Emma Johnsson, led from start to
finish on the way to a 14-stroke victory to claim the school's
first OVC women's golf title and earn the league's automatic
invitation to the NCAA tournament. Morehead State finished at 890,
easily topping defending champion Murray State (904). Jacksonville
State, which had slipped to fourth on Friday, climbed back into
third place with a 924 total and edged ahead of Eastern Kentucky
(932) in fourth. Austin Peay (948) finished fifth, while Eastern
Illinois (978) held off the Golden Eagles by three strokes. Tech
placed seventh with a 981 total, while Tennessee State (1,084) was
eighth.
Sophomore Katherine Bell, who recorded Tech's best round on
Saturday with a 78, climbed into a tie for 21st place with Rhyne,
who closed with an 80. The two finished the 54-hole event with
scores of 240.
Freshman Brandy VanEtten wrapped up play with an 81 and finished
the tournament at 250 for 32nd place, one shot better than freshman
teammate Katy Beth Glover, who finished wiht an 80 for a 251.
Spradlen's final round was an 82 for a 258 total and 35th
place.
