Women's golf team gets spring underway at Samford tourney

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- One week after the Tennessee Tech men's team opened the season at the Samford Invitational, the Golden Eagle women's team will be on the same course in Oneonta, Ala., Monday and Tuesday to open the spring portion of their schedule.

Coach Brandy Stout's team will head to Limestone Springs Golf Course to play in the eight-team field, with 36 holes scheduled for Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday. The par 72 Jerry Pate-designed layout will play at 6,457 yards for the women's tournament.

In addition to Tech and the host Samford squads, the field will also feature Belmont, Birmingham Southern, Evansville, Jacksonville State, South Alabama and Troy.

Carley Rhyne, a senior from Powell, Tenn., will fill the top spot in Tech's lineup at Samford. Rhyne had the team's best average during the fall schedule at 78.1 through four tournaments.

Katherine Bell, a sophomore from Jackson, Tenn., who averaged 81.1 in the fall, is next on Tech's lineup. Also scheduled to compete are Brandy VanEtten, a freshman from Jacksboro, Tenn., sophomore Amanda Randolph from Cookeville, and KAty Beth Glover, a freshman from Paris, Tenn.

Jacksonville State is the defending team champion at this event, while last year's individual medalist was Fanny Eineren of South Alabama.
