JONESBORO, Ark. -- Senior Carley Rhyne closed with a final round 77 Tuesday to lift her into a tie for 10th place as the Tennessee Tech women's golf team claimed fifth place at the Red Wolf Classic, hosted by Arkansas State University.
The host team withstood a furious charge by Murray State and
held on to win its own championship by a single stroke. Arkansas
State managed a 911 final tally, edging the Lady Racers who made up
nine strokes on Tuesday and finished at 912.
South Alabama (931) was a distant third, followed by Harding
(969), Tennessee Tech (977) and St. Francis (1,175).
The tourney was played at the 6,141-yard, par 72 Sage Meadows
Country Club.
Rhyne opened with rounds of 80 and 79 Monday, and wrapped up
Tuesday with a 77 to post a 54-hole total of 236 and finish in a
three-way tie for 10th place.
Freshman Amber Shepher carded scores of 83, 80 and 80 to tie for
17th place at 243, followed by senior Lindsay Spradlen in 19th
place with rounds of 81, 82 and 84 for a 247 total.
Sophomore Amanda Randolph was next for Tech, finishing in a tie
for 22nd place after shooting 89, 82 and 80 for a 251. Freshman
Katy Beth Glover (pictured in photo above) fought her way
back from an opening round 92 to score an 82 and 84 for a 258 total
and a 29th place finish.
Two Golden Eagle golfers headed up the field of seven individual
players in the tournament. Freshman Erika Wann was 20th with scores
of 84, 80 and 85 for a 249 total, while sophomore Katherine Bell
was 21st, fashioning rounds of 81, 85 and 84 for a 251 total.
Coach Brandy Stout's team will play next at the APSU Invitational
in Clarksville, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 18-19.
