Tech sits in the no. 5 spot at the Lady Red Wolf Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Host school Arkansas State finished the first two rounds of the Lady Red Wolf Classic on Monday at Sage Meadows Country Club with an overall score of 602 on the 6,141-yard course to put them in the driver's seat headed into day two of the Classic on Tuesday.

The Golden Eagle women's team sits in the five spot with a 656, led by Carley Rhyne who turned in cards of 80 and 79 on the par-72 course after playing 36 holes in comfortably sunny, warm weather on Monday. Rhyne's score of 159 leaves her in 13th place, while teammates Amber Shepherd and Lindsay Spradlen sit in 17th place with scores of 163 each.

Amanda Randolph and Katy Beth Glover rounded out the top five for Tech, logging scores of 171 and 174.

Arkansas State's Jennifer Welch notched a 146 on two rounds to lead the field of 37 after day one, being one of only two golfers to score under par on round two of the day. Welch turned in a 75 on round one and a 71 on round two.

Tech heads into the final 18 holes of play on Tuesday 11 strokes behind Harding University in the no. 4 spot. Murray State logged a second round team score of 296 to jump into second place and overtake the University of South Alabama, who held a five-stroke lead over the Racers after round one, but shot a 314 on round two.

The ladies will conclude play Tuesday with one more round of 18; final results will be posted at the conclusion of the Classic.
