DICKSON, Tenn. -- Sophomore Katherine Bell put together the best outing of the day for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team Friday during the second round of the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at GreyStone Golf Course. Bell's 77 was an improvement of eight shots from her Thursday score, and bumped her up a couple of spots on the individual leaderboard.

However, despite four of the five members of the team improving their scores with their second-day efforts, the Golden Eagles couldn't make any headway in the team standings, holding onto seventh place with a team total of 662. Tech cut a dozen strokes from Thursday's performance.

Morehead State was 15 shots higher on Friday, but the Eagles maintained their leadin the team standings by eight strokes over defending champion Murray State. Morehead State shot a 307 to close the day at 599, while Murray State is at 607 after shooting 310 on the second day.

Eastern Kentucky also posted a 310 and jumped past Jacksonville State into third place. The Colonels are at 615 while the Gamecocks managed a 313 and are at 617. Austin Peay is in fifth at 631, followed by Eastern Ilinois (657), Tennessee Tech (662) and Tennessee State (734).

Bell opened play Friday with a birdie on the first hole, and stayed away from trouble most of the round for her 77. She had three bogeys and also took a triple bogey on the 320-yard, par 4 fifth hole. Her score moved her from 31st place to 25th heading into the final round Saturday at 162.

Senior Carley Rhyne remains Tech's leader through 36 holes, following her opening round 81 with a 79 Friday for a 160 total, and is in 20th place, two strokes ahead of Bell.

Freshman Brandy VanEtten also improved, dropping one stroke from her first round score of 82 to fiish Friday with an 81 thanks in part to an eagle on the back nine. VanEtten was able to mark a three on the par 5, 458-ar 12th hole. She is tied for 31st place at 169.

Freshman Katy Beth Glover matched her opening round with another 86 Friday, and is in 34th place at 172. Her round Friday included a birdie four on No. 12. Senior Lindsay Spradlen showed the second-largest improvement on the squad Friday, trimming six shots from her opening round to finish at 85.

Emma Johnsson of Morehead State is at 143 and leads the individual scoring by six shots. Morgan Cross of Murray State is second at 149.

The third and final round tees of Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
