BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sophomore Katherine Bell (in photo) is tied for 13th place and freshman Brandy VanEtten is tied for 16th to lead the Tennessee Tech women's golf team after the first round of play Monday at the Samford Invitational to open the spring schedule for coach Brandy Stout's team.

Play was nearly completed in the second round Monday when rains forced the golfers off the course at Limestone Springs Golf Club. The eight-team field will resumed the final few holes Tuesday before wrapping up the 54-hole tournament with the third round.

Tech is in seventh place following the first 18 holes of scoring with a 332 team total. Troy holds the team lead with a score of 300, three shots up on Jacksonville State (303) and four ahead of host Samford (304). South Alabama (308) is fourth, followed by Belmont (311), Evansville (326), Tech (332) and Birmingham Southern (336).

Individually, Bell is tied for 13th place after shooting a 77 in the opening round. VanEtten is one shot back at 78 and tied for 16th. Tech's lineup also includes Carley Rhyne (86) tied for 35th place and Katy Beth Glover (91) in 44th. Tech's fifth entry, Amanda Randolph, withdrew from play Monday.

South Alabama's Nina Offenberg shot a 68, and holds a one stroke lead on the individual leaderboard.

Play will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday as the teams conclude the second round, and the third round will commence as soon as the hole locations can be changed.
