COOKEVILLE, Tenn. –Tennessee Tech junior center Brittany Darling has been voted the Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball Newcomer of the Week for her efforts against Kentucky and Drake. The honor was announced Monday by the OVC office.
A transfer student out of Owens Community College, this is the
first time Darling has won an OVC Newcomer of the Week award.
During the week, Darling averaged 7.5 points and seven
rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field. Darling also
recorded her first double-double at Tennessee Tech with 13 points
and 10 rebounds against Drake.
Darling began the week with four rebounds and two points
against Kentucky, but followed up with a 13-point, 10-rebound
performance against Drake, which included the game-winning shot as
time expired.
Tech (6-2, 1-0 OVC) continues its 2010-11 schedule and resumes
conference play as it hosts Eastern Illinois Sunday. Opening tip is
set for 1 p.m.
