Memorial ceremony, moment of silence planned Thursday for 9/11 victims

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Over Labor Day weekend, 2,977 American flags were posted in the grass on Tennessee Tech University’s Main Quad to honor the victims of Sept. 11, 2001.

There will be a short dedication ceremony at 11:15 a.m. Thursday on the quad, sponsored by the TTU Alumni Association, along with Kaylee Marie Radzyminski, founder of Tunes 4 the Troops and Mark Ochsenbein, director of Student Activities.

The flags will remain up until the end of the weekend. The public is welcome to attend the memorial.

In addition, prior to kickoff Thursday night in Tucker Stadium, Athletics will incude a moment of silence for the victims. The Golden Eagles host Maryville College in a 7 p.m. contest, and the event is Military Apprciation Night. All military families, both active and retired, are invited to receive free tickets to the game and a meal in the Magic 98.5 Tailgate Park, sponsored by First Tennessee Bank.
