COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech quarterback Tre Lamb and wide
receiver Tim Benford have received honorable mention on the week
two list of College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) for their
key roles in the Golden Eagles 56-7 win over Maryville College
Thursday night.
Playing just midway into the third quarter, Lamb passed for 222
yards and four touchdowns against the Scots. He was 11-for-14, and
his four scoring tosses were a personal best one one short of the
school record. He hit Benford on a 24-yard score on the second play
of the game, and found the speedy senior for a 71-yard connection
later in the opening quarter to make it 21-0.
Five minutes later, Lamb hit Doug Page over the middle for a
22-yard gain. The ball was jarred loose and ended up in the hands
of freshman Ron Durbin, who took it the final five yards for the
score. On the final play of the first half, Lamb waited for
fullback Charlie Stevens to get clear over the middle, then hit him
in stride. The fifth-year senior raced 38 yards to the goal line as
the half ended.
Benford continued his assault on the school record book, making
six catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns. He now has 164 career
receptions, putting him just 31 short of Larry Shipp's school mark
of 195. His receiving yardage total has climbed to 2,365, just 585
yards short of Shipp's mark of 2,950. He also has recorded 24
career touchdowns as he edges closer to the school career record of
27, also by Shipp.
Lamb and Benford were among five players in the Ohio Valley
Conference to be named on the CFPA list for the week, joining
linebacker Rico Council of Tennessee State, punter Kienan Cullen of
