Football Alumni Golf Classic
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Former Tennessee Tech football players are
invited to gather on Saturday, July 14, for the team's annual
Alumni Golf Classic at the Cookeville Golf Club. Last year's
gathering was the largest ever for the event, and early indications
point to another outstanding turnout so interested alumni should
act quickly to reserve space in the tournament.
Prior to the golf outing on Saturday, the public is invited to
join the festivities with a Friday night BBQ dinner. Tickets for
the Friday night dinner are $20 each and can be purchased in
advance or at the Cookeville Golf Club the day of the event.
All proceeds from the dinner will directly benefit the Golden Eagle
football program.
Former Golden Eagle Tom Pemberton is heading up this year's golf
event, and is encouraging all former players to return for the
day's activities.
"We are really excited about the response and comments we have
been getting for the tournament," Pemberton said. "It's a chance
for former players to come back and meet with the coaching staff of
the OVC championship team from 2011, and gain a little insight into
the 2012 season.
"It should be an outstanding event as this tournament continues to
grow," Pemberton added. "Our goals are to raise money for the
Robert Hill Johnson Scholarship Endowment and for the TTU football
progam."
For alumni who can get to town early, former player Ottis Phillips
(1969-72) is hosting a separate event to benefit the football
program.
Miller Lite and Stone Steel will host a Friday evening dinner from
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cookeville Golf Club. The dinner will
feature some of the South’s best barbecue for what has become
a legendary feast.
Pre-registration for the golf tournament is available until noon
on Thursday, July 12. Pre-registration is available either
in-person at the football office, by phone (931-372-3930).
If space is available, registration will also be available at the
golf event beginning at 10 a.m.
The four-man scramble format tournament will get underway at noon
with a shotgun start.
The cost of the playing in the event is $100 per person, both
during pre-registration and the day of the tournament but the field
is limited to the first 120 golfers to sign up. All proceeds from
the tournament go to the Tennessee Tech football program and the
Robert Hill Johnson endowment.
For additional information or registration, call the football
office at (931) 372-3930.
