Football team celebrates 2011 OVC championship with ring ceremony

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Members of the Tennessee Tech football team and staff gathered recently for a special ceremony to receive rings to commemorate winning the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference championship.

President Bob Bell had words of gratitude to the team for winning the championship -- the tem's first in 36 seasons -- in his last year as the University's leader. Bell retires at the end of June.

Director of Athletics Mark Wilson also spoke to the group, congratulating them for their accomplishment and offereing a challenge to repeat as OVC champions in 2012.

Joining Bell and Wilson in presenting the rings were TTU First Lady Gloria Bell and head football coach Watson Brown.

The 2011 Golden Eagles claimed a share of the title with a 7-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in OVC play. It was Tech's 10th OVC Football Championship, but the first for the university since 1975.
