Dontey Gay receives Performance Awards honorable mention

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tennessee Tech running back Dontey Gay has received an honorable mention on the Week 12 list of College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) for his record-setting performance in the Golden Eagles 49-7 victory over Austin Peay Saturday afternoon.

With its win over APSU, the Golden Eagles won their first Ohio Valley Conference championship since 1975, and are making their first trip to the FCS playoffs.

Averaging 7.7 yards per carry, Gay rushed for 192 total yards, which brought his season total to 1,009. His two-yard touchdown run with 7:52 left in the fourth quarter set a new TTU single-season record with 15 rushing touchdowns.

Gay was among seven players in the OVC to be named to the CFPA list this week, joining Southeast Missouri's Joe Vucic, who was named the National Punter of the Weel, and quarterback Matt Scheible, linebacker Ben Dais of UT Martin, defensive end Kevin Robinson of Murray State and quarterback Coty Blanchard and wide received Wesley Warren of Jacksonville State.

Quaterback Tre Lamb, wide receiver Tim Benford and punter Nick Campbell have earned CFPA honorable mentions.

The Golden Eagles host Central Arkansas in the opening round of the FCS playoffs Saturday, at 2 p.m.
