COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- An 11 a.m. CT starting time has been announced for Tennessee Tech's season-opening football game at the University of Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 3 in Iowa City. Kickoff times for the first three weekends of the 2011 season were announced Tuesday by the Big Ten Conference, with the Tech-Iowa contest slated for telecast by the Big Ten Network.
The game against the Hawkeyes will mark the 15th consecutive
year that the Golden Eagles have stepped up to play an opponent
from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Last season, Tech -- a
member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) -- faced
eventual Rose Bowl champion TCU and Sugar Bowl participant
Arkansas.
Tech's visit to Iowa will mark the school's first game against a
Big 10 opponent. The game will be played in Iowa's historic Kinnick
Stadium, a 70,585-seat venue built in 1929. Last year, on the way
to a 8-5 record, Iowa sold out all seven home games. The Hawkeyes
went on to win the Insight Bowl on Dec. 28, topping No. 12
Missouri, 27-24. The Hawkeyes played one of the nation’s
toughest schedules, facing seven ranked opponents and claiming wins
in four of the matchups.
Iowa returns 38 letterwinners in 2011, including 11 starters with
five on offense and five on defense.
Tickets for the game at Iowa may be purchased through the Tech
Athletics Ticket Office in Eblen Center. Tickets are $57 each. For
