CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team
opened play Sunday at the Kiawah Island Classic, finishing the day
in 29th place among 36 teams at the largest college
tournament in the nation
With a youthful lineup featuring three freshmen, one sophomore and
one junior, the Golden Eagles shot 333 during first round play at
the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C.
Whitney
Robertson, a freshman from Clarksville, shot an 80, which
marked as the low round of the day for the Golden Eagles and left
her in 98th place individually.
Fellow freshman Lydia Triplett
was next with an 82, placing her in a tie for 120th
place. Nine places back is sophomore Megan
Williamson, who carded an 83. Freshman Haley Davidson
finished with an 88, while junior Maddi Everts
shot 89.
Troy mastered the course Sunday with a 291 team total to take the
team lead, while Jacksonville State, Kent State and St. John's are
all tied for second with a 292.
The field of 192 golfers heads back onto the course early Monday
for the second round, with the third round scheduled for Tuesday
morning.
