Tech Softball gets midweek visit from Chattanooga Tuesday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After sweeping Western Illinois this weekend, the Tennessee Tech softball team doesn't get a lot of time to relax as the Golden Eagles will take on in-state foe Chattanooga on Tuesday.

The single game will start at 4 p.m. Central with the game streamed on ESPN+ with Dylan Vazzano on the call.

The Mocs head into Cookeville with a 21-9 record on the season as they took two out of three from UNC Greensboro to open Southern Conference play with the visitors snapping UTC's five-game winning streak in the finale in a 14-6 UNCG victory.

As a team, Chattanooga is hitting .303 on the season with 154 runs scored, 137 RBI and 77 extra base hits – including 46 doubles, eight triples and 23 home runs. The Mocs have also stolen 24 of 29 base attempts.

Camryn Cernuto leads the team in average with a .383 mark to go along with a team-best 36 hits and has scored 24 times as well as 12 stolen bases. Olivia Lipari (.349) has a team-best 25 runs scored with 10 doubles and 23 RBI. Acelynn Sellers (.312, 24 RBI) and Presley Williamson (.250, 28 RBI) each have a team-best 28 RBI.

In the circle, Chattanooga has a team ERA of 3.21, walking 111 and striking out 218 with opponents hitting .227 against. Peja Goold leads the team with a 1.76 ERA and a 12-4 record with 11 complete games and five shutouts in 19 appearances. She has 39 walks and 119 strikeouts this season with opponents hitting .164.

Taylor Long (3.10, 75 Ks) also has a 6-0 record in 14 appearances.

The Golden Eagles are hitting .269 as a team after the offensive assault this weekend. Tech has 119 runs scored with 96 RBI with 50 extra-base hits – 40 doubles, five triples and five home runs – while also stealing 42 bases on 51 attempts.

Abby Shoulders leads the team in average with .372, while stealing a team-best 16 bases and scoring 20 times. Sydney Kirby (.301) has a team-best 17 RBI and 11 doubles, while Ashley Capelouto (.318), Olivia Evans (.310), Makayli Harris (.327), Olivia Evans (.310), Abbee Klinefelter (.306) are all batting above .300 on the season.

In the circle, Tech has a 3.84 ERA, walking 103 and striking out 124 with opponents hitting .313. Emily York (3.02 ERA) has a 4-5 record with 16 walks and 36 strikeouts, while Lainey Fitzgerald (3-5, 5.08 ERA) and Addison Abell (2-2, 2.57 ERA) have seen consistent action as newcomers.
