LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tennessee Tech got its offense going in a big way on Wednesday as the Golden Eagles run-ruled Bellarmine 9-1 in six innings.
Makayli Harris led the way as she went 3-for-5 at the plate, collecting five RBI in the game.
Olivia Evans, Ella Bishop and Alina Schlageter also had two hits each as Tech (11-23) pulled together 14 total hits in the contest.
Emily York picked up the victory to improve to 5-6 on the season, allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out two over five complete frames. Lainey Fitzgerald closed out the game with one hit allowed and a strikeout in the final inning played.
After the first two innings went by with no score, the Golden Eagles put three runs on in the top of the third as Abby Shoulders' sacrifice fly to left center brought Schlageter home. Harris picked up the first two of her RBI with a double down the left field line to bring Evans and Abbee Klinefelter across the plate.
Tech extended its lead with three more runs in the top of the fifth. Bailee Stack scored on Harris' RBI single to left field. As Harris stole second, an errant throw allowed Sydney Kirby to score, then Harris touched home on a fielder's choice off of Brooklyn Stewart's grounder.
Bellarmine broke up the shutout in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double.
The Golden Eagles forced the run-rule in the top of the sixth as Harris drove on Shoulders and Klinefelter with a single to center field, then Jailynn Paderez singled home Harris with a single to right center.
Tech returns to action on Friday as the Golden Eagles take on Eastern Illinois, starting with a doubleheader Friday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. Admission at Tech Softball Field is free.
