COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Payton Wagner and Addison Abell had great games in the circle for the Tennessee Tech softball team on Tuesday, but Chattanooga was able to put the lone run of the game on the scoreboard to take a 1-0 victory over the Golden Eagles.
The single run came across in the top of the third inning as Lexi Cooley, Zoe Wright and Camryn Cernuto collected all three of the Mocs' hits in a single frame, but all that did was load the bases. Instead, Chattanooga (22-9) scored its run as Olivia Lipari was hit by a pitch, forcing Cooley across the plate.
Tech broke up Taylor Long's no-hit bid in the fifth inning as Ella Bishop roped a single past Chattanooga's diving second baseman.
Long went the distance, throwing 113 total pitches as she walked three and struck out eight for her seventh win of the season.
Wagner took the tough-luck loss, yielding the single run on three hits over three innings. Abell threw four innings with three walks.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday as they continue Ohio Valley Conference play at Evansville as Tech takes on Southern Indiana. With weather in the forecast this weekend, the two teams will play in a doubleheader on Friday starting at noon, then a single game on Saturday.
