GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Senior Sam Taylor lead the Tech men's team, while freshman Rebecca Cline led the women's squad in Saturday's cross-country action in the Gene Mullin Furman Invitational. Every one of Tech's runners on the women's teams achieved personal-best times, while four of the men's runners did the same.
Cline finished with a time of 19:51 and placed 29th. She was followed by Peri Winborne, a freshman from Knoxville, who ran a time of 20:09 in the 5K race and came in 36th. Junior Traci Jones finished 46th and was clocked in at 20:43, which bests her previous personal-best time of 20:49 set on September, 6, 2008.
Following was a group of Tech runners that ended close together. Sophomore Beth Miller completed with a time of 20:46 and came in 48th. Amelia McCoy, a freshman from Crossville was clocked at 20:47 and 49th. Freshman Emily Williams finished with the clock reading 20:58 and she came in 52nd. Leah Bradley, a junior was timed at 21:03 and finished 54th. Following just behind was Brittney Brown, a freshman from Greeneville, Tenn., who came in with a time of 21:31 and 61st. Freshman Meghan O'Donoghue clocked in at 21:38 and 63rd. Emily Weinzetl, a junior, finished with a time of 21:52 and 64th.
The women's squad placed sixth as a team out of thirteen schools. There were 111 runners participating.
For the men, who came in fourth out of 11 schools, Taylor came in 24th individually with his time of 27:29. Close behind was freshman Matthew Bishop with a time of 27:37 and finishing 27th.
A cluster followed behind. John Greene, a sophomore from Friendsville, achieved a personal-best time of 28:14 and placed 39th. Senior Ben Shassere was clocked at 28:19 and finished 41st. At his heels was another senior, Joseph DeLorenzo, with a time of 28:22 and placing 42nd. Sophomore Chris Bishop was there with a time of 28:23 and finishing 43rd. Tyler Eads, a freshman from Tullahoma, completed the race in a personal-best time of 28:36 and placing 45th. Junior Daniel Francis achieved a time of 28:46 and placed 46th. That time qualifies as a personal-best for Francis, who last reached a best time on October 31, 2009 of 28:50. Also achieving a career-best time was Nathan Snow, who finished with a time of 29:20 and came in 54th out of 112 runners.
The Golden Eagles will be competing again next Saturday as they participate in the Evansville Invitational.
