Cross country teams head to Bowling Green for WKU Invitational

Week Two cross country team notes (PDF)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech's cross country teams are looking to bring the momentum from the first meet of the season into Bowling Green, Ky., Saturday when they compete in the Western Kentucky Invitational.

The Golden Eagle squads competed well in the Sewanee Invitational two weeks ago with both the men's and women's teams placing strong fourth-place finishes at the meet.  Both teams were led by new faces this season.

For the men, freshman Matthew Bishop placed  ninth out of 104 participants with a time of 27:26.40.  On the women's squad, freshman Peri Winborne came across the finish line in a solid 16th place with a time of 23:54.73.  Bishop and Winborne look to lead the young teams again along with veterans that bring some strong experience in Bowling Green from previous meets.   Senior Sam Taylor placed third on the team in the meet in 2007, the last time the Golden Eagles participated in the Old Timers Classic.  He clocked in a time of 28:35.39.  Senior Joseph DeLorenzo is the only other returning Golden Eagle from the 2007 meet.  He achieved a time of 29:10.02, enough to place him fifth on the squad.  No runners on the women's team have previously run in the Old Timers Classic.

The starting gun for the women's 5K race is scheduled to sound at 10 a.m, with the start of the men's 5-mile event at 10:45. Complete meet results will be posted on TTUsports.com Saturday afternoon as soon as they become available.
