Golden Eagles host two meets, including OVC Championships

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech cross country teams will run on some familiar turf this fall, including two meets on their “home” layout at Southern Hills Golf Course. In addition to hosting their annual TTU Invitational in early October, coach Tony Cox and his teams will serve as hosts for the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Championships later in the month.

The Golden Eagle runners get the season underway with a return to the Sewanee Invitational on Sept. 4, and run in the Western Kentucky Invitational two weeks later in Bowling Green, Ky., on Sept. 18.
              
The first home meet is the TTU Invitational, set for the starting gun at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, at Southern Hills. Tech runs in the Furman Invitational on Oct. 9 and the Evansville Invitational on Oct. 16, to wrap up the regular season.
              
The OVC meet is Saturday, Oct. 30, at Southern Hills. Tech is slated to run in the NCAA South Regional meet in Birmingham, Ala., on Nov. 13 with hopes of advancing to the national championships in Terre Haute, Ind., Nov. 22.

“I am looking forward to the upcoming season,” Cox said. “We have an extremely young women's team, so it will be fun to watch them grow over the years.

“Our men's team may be the best we have had in a long time,” Cox added. “We lost some seniors last year, but have several good seniors this year, along with a couple of freshmen and sophomores who are going to help us a lot.”

With experience competing at each of the venues on the 2010 schedule, Cox said his runners are anxious to undertake the challenges of the coming season.

“Everyone is training hard this summer and even though we are still two months away, I can't wait for the season to begin.” Cox said.
