COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech’s cross country teams are set to kick off the 2010 campaign Saturday when they run in the Sewanee Invitational. The meet is scheduled to get under way at 10 a.m., with the women’s 5K run, followed by the men’s 8K at 11 a.m.

Last season the Tech women’s squad posted a sixth place finish at Sewanee, while the Golden Eagle women placed fifth.

For the Tech men’s team, senior Sam Taylor returns to lead the squad into action. Taylor placed first on the team in nearly every meet last season.  Also among those returning are sophomore Chris Bishop, who posted several strong second- and third-place finishes last season, and senior Joseph DeLorenzo, who placed third on the team at Sewanee last season.

The new faces on the squad this year are Kolbe Andrzejewski, Matthew Bishop, Drew DeLorenzo, Tyler Eads, Michael Mahan and Nathan Snow

On the women’s squad, veterans Tiffany Palmer and Amanda Simmons are gone, but junior Traci Jones and sophomore Kathryn Forbes look to lead the team. Jones finished second on the team in every race last season, while Forbes placed a respectable fourth in nearly every race.  The fresh faces represented on the team are Leah Bradley, Brittany Brown, Rebecca Cline, Yeshi Dohrmann, Amelia McCoy, Meghan O’Donoghue, Emily Williams and Peri Winborne.

Complete meet results will be posted on TTUsports.com Saturday afternoon as soon as they become available.
