INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A day before the Horizon League Tournament kicks off, the Tennessee Tech tennis team made news with the announcement of Golden Eagle freshman Alex Alvarez securing a spot on the All-League Second Team during Thursday's unveil of the conference's postseason honors.

The TTU rookie out of Barcelona, Spain makes it a 25th-straight season in which a Golden Eagle has been recognized on an all-conference team, which includes a second-consecutive spring with at least one All-Horizon League accolade after Mika Berghaus and Elias Grubert picked up all-league achievement in 2023 in Tech's first season in the conference.

Alvarez becomes the first Golden Eagle freshman to be named to a postseason squad since 2019 when Grubert, Rafael Tosetto and Carlos Vicente were all recognized on the All-OVC first or second team in their first seasons as collegiate student-athletes.

Alvarez served as TTU's No. 1 singles competitor all season long, appearing in all but one match in the top solo spot. The 5-foot-11 rookie saved his best for last behind a 3-3 mark over his final six singles clashes, which included a 2-2 Horizon League mark and a win in No. 1 at nationally-ranked Memphis on Mar. 23.

As far as doubles play is concerned, Alvarez posted a winning Horizon League mark thanks to a 3-2 conference account.

Alvarez and the rest of the Golden Eagles have their sights set on their second-ever appearance in the Horizon League tournament with a quarterfinal contest against Northern Kentucky on the books for Thursday morning. First serve in the season-at-stake meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. CT from the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
