CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team opened up the month of October in grand fashion, as the Golden Eagles strung together a sterling showing in the Brian Coons Memorial Tournament, hosted by Austin Peay over the weekend.
In clashes with the host Govs, Brescia and Cumberland, Tech took home singles wins in 14 of a possible 18 matchups, while the purple and gold also secured doubles victories in seven of nine tandem tangles. TTU's fall performance in Clarksville saw the Golden Eagles hook up with Austin Peay and Brescia on Friday, before the club rounded out its stay at the Governors Tennis Courts with a Saturday get-together against Cumberland.
Alex Alvarez and Paulo Ramos Martin both registered perfect 3-0 singles showings over the weekend, while Ramos Martin and David Spaks were Tech's lone doubles tandem to also put together a 3-0 record in the two days.
Spaks, Murilo Burckhardt, Lukas Krause and Darek Kuczynski all complied 2-1 singles marks in their trio of solo battles, while Alvarez, Burckhardt and Kuczynski each went 2-1 during doubles play over the weekend.
Tech will now set its sights on the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, set for Oct. 12-16 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
