MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In a week that featured only one match for the Tennessee Tech tennis team, the Golden Eagles were upended 7-0 by No. 39 Middle Tennessee Sunday evening in Murfreesboro.

Having already squared off with a quartet of nationally ranked foes this spring, TTU's fifth match with a nationally ranked club saw the Blue Raiders (14-7) claim five of their six singles clashes in straight sets. Golden Eagles freshman Davids Spaks took Jakub Kroslak to a third set in the No. 3 tangle after Spaks secured a 7-6 first-set triumph, but was downed 6-0 in the second and 10-4 in an abbreviated third set.

Freshman Alex Alvarez battled No. 29 Leo Raquin in the first set with a  narrow 6-4 loss, but one of the nation's top-ranked competitors would go on to notch a 6-0 second-set victory to pick up the decision over the Golden Eagle rookie in the No. 1 position.

Ondrej Horak notched a 6-2, 6-1 win against Murilo Burckhardt in the No. 2 spot, while Shu Matsuoka carded a 6-2, 7-5 nod over Darek Kuczynski in the No. 4 bout and Karim Al-Amin collected a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Lukas Krause in the No. 5 affair. Igor Mandou Berranger rounded out the MTSU attack with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Adam Ward in the No. 6 meeting.

The Golden Eagles (0-7) were topped in both completed doubles get-togethers. Javier Cueto Ramos and Marcel Kamrowski knocked off Alex Alvarez and Darek Kuczynski 6-0 in the No. 2 connection and Shu Matsuoka and Igor Mandou Berranger tripped up Lukas Krause and Adam Ward 6-0 in the No. 3 tussle.

The No. 1 matchup pitting Leo Raquin and Ondrej Horak against Davids Spaks and Murilo Burckhardt did not finish.

After having their two last home affairs cancelled due to inclement weather, the Golden Eagles will host Furman on Mar. 22 in the club's next contest. TTU's second match in Cookeville this spring is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CT. Admission to Tech Tennis Courts is free of charge.
