COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Presbyterian spoiled the Tennessee Tech tennis team's home opener, as the Blue Hose tied a ribbon on the week with a 5-2 victory in TTU's first action in Cookeville in 2024.
The Golden Eagles (0-5) did manage a season-high two singles wins, with Murilo Burckhardt and Darek Kuczynski each collecting a solo triumph to pace the purple and gold in the contest. Burckhardt secured his first collegiate spring singles win behind a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Denim Yadav in the No. 2 position, while Kuczynski tabbed his first solo victory as a Golden Eagle thanks to a 6-3, 6-3 nod against Pedro Cardoso in the No. 5 slot.
The Blue Hose (5-4) picked up four singles wins on the way to their first road victory of the spring, headlined by a Javier Matos' straight-set 6-4, 6-4 decision over Alex Alvarez in the No. 1 spot. The middle of the lineup proved to be effective for Presbyterian as well, with Evgenios Vasilakis carding a 6-4, 6-4 win over Paulo Ramos Martin in the No. 3 bout and David Mamalat earning a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 triumph over Davids Spaks in the No. 4 affair.
Marco Foglieni helped put the finishing touches on PC's victory behind a 6-2, 6-4 nod against Lukas Krause in the No. 6 meeting.
The Blue Hose jumped on the board early by clinching the doubles point with wins in two of the three tandem tangles. Javier Matos and Denim Yadav collected a 6-4 triumph against Alex Alvarez and Paulo Ramos Martin in the No. 1 get-together, while Evgenios Vasilakis and Pedro Cardoso mirrored that showing behind a 6-4 win of their own over Murilo Burckhardt and Darek Kuczynski in the No. 3 battle.
Lucas Bitzer and Davids Spaks notched TTU's lone doubles decision thanks to a 6-1 victory against Marco Foglieni and David Mamalat in the No. 2 tilt.
Tech will stay at home for its fourth matchup against a "Power 5" opponent this season, with the Golden Eagles greeting Texas Tech on Saturday, Mar. 2. First serve from Tech Tennis Courts is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and admission is free of charge.
