Arovin, Esteban earn first-team all-OVC tennis team honors

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Tennessee Tech sophomore Oleksiy Arovin and freshman Alberto Esteban, each in their first season on the Golden Eagle roster, have been voted first-team all-conference by the Ohio Valley Conference tennis coaches. The honors were announced Wednesday at the OVC Tournament.

Arovin, a transfer from Oklahoma State who hails from Donetsk, Ukraine, led Tech in 2014, posting a 22-10 overall singles record including a 15-3 mark in dual matches this spring. He went 15-2 in No. 1 singles matches, bolstered by an 8-1 record in conference matches. In doubles matches, Arovin posted a 13-12 overall record, including a 5-2 mark in OVC play.

Esteban, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, was 16-14 overall in singles play in his Tech debut, including a 7-2 record in the conference while playing in the No. 2 position. For most of his doubles play, he was paired with Arovin in the No. 1 spot as the duo posted a 5-2 conference record.

The Tech pair was joined on the all-OVC first-team by Mauricio Antun, Marko Lavrinovic and Cedric Dujacquier of Belmont, and Jasmin Ademovic of Austin Peay. The all-OVC second-team included Alekas Tverijonas and Dimitar Ristovski of Austin Peay, Jefferson Wendler-Filho and Dylan Gee of Jacksonville State, Alex Alvaro of Eastern Kentucky and Giovanni Samaha of Morehead State.

Antun was named the OVC Player of the Year and Dujacquier the Freshman of the Year. Steve Bailey of JSU was voted the OVC Coach of the Year.
