Golden Eagles in Louisville Thursday to face Rockets, Cardinals

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- It will be a long day for the Tennessee Tech tennis team Thursday, with two matches scheduled at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville. The Golden Eagles face the Toledo Rockets at 8 a.m. CT, then take on the No. 47 Louisville Cardinals at 5 p.m.

Tech (0-2) is looking for its first dual match victory of the early season, having dropped matched to No. 6 Tennessee and Chattanooga the past two weeks. The morning match with Toledo will be the first meeting between the two school on the tennis courts, while the Golden Eagles  are 2-8 all-time againt Louisville.

About Toledo
The Rockets, like Tech, look to break into the win column on Thursday. The Rockets went 0-2 last weekend with losses to Duquesne (4-3) and No. 5 Ohio State (4-0), and come into Thursday's action with an 0-6 overall mark in dual action. Toledo has faced an extremely tough schedule, including No. 5 Ohio State, No. 26 Michigan, No. 29 Notre Dame and No. 69 Purdue.

About Louisville

The Cardinals (3-1) enter Thursday's matches ranked No. 47 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings. Michael Lippens leads the team with a 20-5 overall singles record. The junior is also a perfect 3-0 in dual matches and has won eight straight singles matches. Sophomore Alex Gornet has won his last five singles matches and registered a point in Louisville's 4-1 loss at No. 5 Ohio State on Jan. 26. Sophomore Jeffrey Brown carries a team-best 14-6 overall mark in doubles.
