COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- It will be a long day for the Tennessee Tech
tennis team Thursday, with two matches scheduled at the Bass-Rudd
Tennis Center in Louisville. The Golden Eagles face the Toledo
Rockets at 8 a.m. CT, then take on the No. 47 Louisville Cardinals
at 5 p.m.
Tech (0-2) is looking for its first dual match victory of the
early season, having dropped matched to No. 6 Tennessee and
Chattanooga the past two weeks. The morning match with Toledo will
be the first meeting between the two school on the tennis courts,
while the Golden Eagles are 2-8 all-time againt
Louisville.
About Toledo
The Rockets,
like Tech, look to break into the win column on Thursday. The
Rockets went 0-2 last weekend with losses to Duquesne (4-3) and No.
5 Ohio State (4-0), and come into Thursday's action with an 0-6
overall mark in dual action. Toledo has faced an extremely tough
schedule, including No. 5 Ohio State, No. 26 Michigan, No. 29 Notre
Dame and No. 69 Purdue.
About Louisville
The Cardinals (3-1) enter Thursday's matches ranked No. 47 in the
latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings.
Michael Lippens leads the team with a 20-5 overall singles record.
The junior is also a perfect 3-0 in dual matches and has won eight
straight singles matches. Sophomore Alex Gornet has won his last
five singles matches and registered a point in Louisville's 4-1
loss at No. 5 Ohio State on Jan. 26. Sophomore Jeffrey Brown
carries a team-best 14-6 overall mark in doubles.
