Madonia named OVC Specialist of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech senior kicker Nick Madonia was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Specialist of the Week on Sunday, following the weekly vote by the league's sports information contacts.

Madonia kicked a 52-yard field goal during Saturday's contest against Southeast Missouri, giving him field goals of 54 at Utah State, 53 yards at Jacksonville State and 52 against the Redhawks for the three longest field goals in the Football Championship Subdivision this season.

He also went 5-for-5 in point-after tries, tying Zach Sharp for the school record of 59 straight. Madonia has not missed an extra point since Sept. 24, 2016, at UT Martin.

This season, Madonia is 10-for-13 on field goals, ranking eighth nationally in field goals made per game (1.67) and 31st in field goal percentage (76.9).

Murray State running back D.J. Penick was the offensive player of the week with 180 yards and three touchdowns, Austin Peay defensive end Nate Howard (five tackles, two TFLs, a sack, forced and recovered a fumble and a pass breakup) was the defensive player and Southeast Missouri quarterback Daniel Santacaterina (20-for-27, 395 yards, four touchdowns) was the newcomer of the week.
