Knights upend Golden Eagles in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. -  Tennessee Tech's three-game winning streak came to an end as the University of Central Florida defended its home court taking the 79-69 decision.

Despite a slow first half in which the Golden Eagles fell behind 39-26 heading into the locker room, Tech made a game of it and forced UCF to sweat it out down the stretch.

TTU opened the second-half with a 16-6 run to cut the UCF lead to three at 45-42. Tech was spurred on by eight points off junior center Brittany Darling and four from both junior guard Tacarra Hayes and freshman guard Briana Jordan.

Tech managed to stay within arms reach of the Knights as it trailed by six with 3:43 left in the contest but the Knights closed ranks and held off the Golden Eagles to take the 79-69 victory.

Three Golden Eagles reached double figures in scoring with Darling leading the way with 15. Darling also added 10 rebounds to secure her third double-double in the last four games. Hayes posted 14 points along with five rebounds, while freshman forward Molly Heady added 12 points and four rebounds.

Chelsie Wiley paced UCF on the offensive end with 24 points, while D'Nay Daniels added 17 points and seven rebounds.

Tech returns home Sunday as it takes on St. Louis. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
