SPRING HILL, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech men's golf team had one of its finest tournament rounds of the season Tuesday, shooting the third-best score of the day to jump a spot and finish 10th in the team standings at the Big Blue Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee State.

Tech's two individual entries, Lee Maxwell and Travis Ramsey, each earned spots in the top 20. Maxwell closed play with a 71 Tuesday to place in a tie for 16th, while Ramsey shot a 72 and wound up tied for 19th.

Among the five-member Golden Eagle team, senior Jake Hatherly had the top finish. He shot a 71 Tuesday to tie for 25th place at 219. Blake Garrison finished tied for 35th at 222, followed by Wes Korth and Preton Marshall in a tie for 49th at 224, and Josh Simer at 228, tied for 63rd place.

After shooting rounds of 294 and 297 Monday, coach Craig King's team charged back with a 286 on Tuesday at the 6,740-yard, par 70 Spring Creek Golf Course. It bumped the Golden Eagles ahead of OVC rival Morehead State into 10th place in the 15-team field.

Murray State held on to its lead for a six-shot margin of victory at 856. John A. Logan and Tennessee State tied for second (862), followed closely by Dayton (863) in fourth. Eastern Illinois (867) took fifth.

The second five included SIU Edwardsville (868), Evansville (873), Texas Pan AMerican (874), Belmont (876) and Tech (877). OVC members Morehead State (880) and UT Martin (890) were next, with Valparaiso (902), Alabama State (912) and Winston-Salem State (964) rounding out the field.

The next tournament for the Golden Eagles is the Ohio Valley Conference championships, April 26-28.
