HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. -- Golden Eagle senior Joshua Simer earned his
second Top 10 finish of the year, leading the Tennessee Tech men's
golf team to a tie for 10th place in the 17-team F&M Bank APSU
Intercollegiate which wrapped up with a final round Tuesday.
Simer tied for 10th individually among the 90 players in the
54-hole tournament which was played at the par 72, 6,841-yard Links
at Novadell. The senior from Bolivar, Tenn., led the Golden Eagles
for the third time this season.
A second-round 69 on Monday helped put Simer among the
tournament leaders and he closed play Tuesday with a 74 for a 215
total. As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 297-291-294--882 total for
10th place.
Eastern Kentucky, one of eight Ohio Valley Conference teams in the
tournament, captured the team crown by three shots over Towson.
Oakland was two strokes back in third place, followed by Western
Illinois and Jacksonvile State to round out the top five.
The second five includes host Austin Peay (873), Murray State
(875), Missouri State (877). SIU Edwardsville (881) and Northern
Illinois and Tech (882).
Following Simer for Tech, senior Jared Dunn tied for 25th place,
shooting 75-70-74--219. Senior Wesley Korth (73-74-73--220) was
next, tied for 35th place, followed by seniors Preston Marshall
(77-84-73--234) and Jake Heatherly (77-78-79--234), tied for 83rd
place.
Golden Eagles playing as individuals in the tournament included
senior Blake Garrison, tied for 50th place at 74-69-81--224, and
Travis Ramsey, tied for 79th place at 77-77-78--232.
The tournament was the final action of the fall schedule for coach
Craig King's team.
