COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With one of the greatest single seasons in the history of the Tennessee Tech baseball team under wraps, many may think that the story ends there, with the conclusion of games. But nothing could be further from the truth.
On Monday, two members of the Golden Eagle squad received high honors from College Sports Madness. Senior third baseman Daniel Miles was named All-American Third Team while junior shortstop Dylan Bosheers was named to the All-American Fourth Team.
A transfer as a junior from Mississippi Gulf Coast, Miles collected his second All-American nod in two years. The man on the hot corner received Honorable Mention status from CollegeBaseballInsider.com after an impressive junior campaign. He was named to the All-OVC First Team each of his two seasons in the purple and gold, earning the honor as the top third baseman in the league two straight years. In addition, he was named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy as well as to the Midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List.
Miles led the Golden Eagles with an impressive .380 batting average, racking up 90 hits, the third highest single-season total in Tech history. He scored a league-best 67 runs, drove in 54, and smacked 29 extra base hits. Miles slugged .599 thanks to 17 doubles, a triple, and 11 home runs. He also led the league with a .481 on base percentage, drawing 39 walks and getting hit eight times while striking out just 21 times.
A starter since his very first day as a Golden Eagle, Bosheers earned his first All-American nod after finding himself named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List and as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy. The junior has shown steady improvement each year in the Tech uniform, being named to the OVC All-Freshman Team as a freshman, All-OVC Second Team as a sophomore, and this year to the All-OVC First Team.
Bosheers batted .368 in 2014, tallying 86 hits while scoring 66 times and clubbing 14 doubles, a triple, and 11 home runs. The Lawrenceburg, Tenn. native drove in 56 runs while slugging .577 and recording an on base percentage of .444. He tied for the team lead with eight steals and made just nine errors at shortstop in 59 games.
