Golden Eagles to play split weekend with Lipscomb, two games in Nashville, one in Cookeville

By Mike Lehman, TTU Sports Information Coordinator

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – For just the second time all season, the Tennessee Tech baseball team will enter a weekend series with an entire midweek of rest, as the Golden Eagles head to Nashville Friday and Saturday evening for a two-game stop against Lipscomb before returning to Cookeville for a single game against the Bisons on Sunday.

The divided three-game series stems from the fact that these two squads met at Bush Stadium back in February, a contest that saw a wild, walk-off victory for the Golden Eagles. Down by one heading into the eighth, shortstop Dylan Bosheers hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in the tying run. Junior Connor Goodspeed followed in the bottom of the ninth, sending his own sac fly to right field to give Tech the 10-9, come-from-behind victory.

Both teams have been very good this season, with the Golden Eagles boasting a slightly better mark of 34-12. Lipscomb owns a respectable record of 26-19.

Last weekend, Tech took two of three contests from Ohio Valley Conference foe Murray State, winning its seventh league series of the year. The Bisons clinched a spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament after taking a series against Northern Kentucky.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
• The top power bat for the Golden Eagles this season, senior Brandon Thomasson has also shown that he belongs in the talks for one of the best in the nation. The right fielder currently ranks second in the nation with 15 home runs and fourth with 54 RBI. His total bases mark of 129 ranks third in all of Division I baseball as well. He is currently batting .326 and is coming off a weekend where he hit three home runs.

• No bat has made a bigger impact this season than that of Daniel Miles. The senior, who was named to the midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List, leads the team and ranks in the top 10 in the nation with a .410 batting average. He leads Division I baseball with 57 runs scored and has driven in 43 runners as well. He has clubbed 26 extra base hits for a slugging percentage of .656 and owns 30 walks compared to just 16 strikeouts.

• Shortstop Dylan Bosheers just keeps finding ways to excite Golden Eagle fans. The junior ranks second on the Tech squad with a .385 batting average and 53 runs scored. What's been most impressive is that Bosheers, who has 10 home runs, 13 doubles, and 43 RBI, has done most of his damage hitting out of the six-hole.

• Freshman pitcher Kyle Keatts will make his first career weekend start Sunday afternoon, marking just the second time this season he will have started a game for the Golden Eagles. The right-hander has been great coming out of the bullpen this season, recording a 2.10 ERA over 30 innings of work with 20 strikeouts and just seven walks. He is holding opponents to a meager .211 batting average and holds a 4-0 record with one save.
