Huge week earns Zarzour first OVC Player of the Week honors

By Mike Lehman, TTU Sports Information Coordinator

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – One of the more impressive weeks at the plate by any Tennessee Tech baseball player led senior leadoff man Zach Zarzour to his first adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors Monday morning.

The second baseman collected 12 hits in 17 at bats to record an incredible .706 batting average, leading the squad to a 4-0 week and the Golden Eagles' 10th consecutive victory. He racked up an .824 slugging percentage and put the Tech team in scoring position all week, finding his way on base in 71.4 percent of the time.

Zarzour scored five runs on the week, ripping two doubles and recording two RBI. He also swiped two bases while being extremely disciplined at the plate with no strikeouts.

A native of Ooltewah, Tenn., Zarzour currently ranks second on the Tech squad with a .449 batting average. That mark also has him listed third in the OVC and in the top 50 of the nation. His .509 slugging percentage is the third best in the league and he ranks only behind teammate Brandon Thomasson in RBI with 14 on the year.
