COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A near no-hitter was more than enough for one of Tennessee Tech baseball's own to gather adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Monday afternoon, as junior Chris Chism took home his first award from the league since transferring from St. Petersburg College.
Chism struck out a career-best 10 batters in hurling a one-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory over UT Martin on Sunday. The right hander allowed only a double in the seventh inning while hitting three batters and not walking anybody in improving to 3-0 on the season. Chism retired the final seven batters of the game while becoming just the sixth TTU player to throw a one-hitter in program history.
He also became just the second Golden Eagle to accomplish a one-hitter in at least nine innings. The nine-inning feat had not been accomplished since 1975 when Ralph Mallicoat did it against Milligan College.
On the year, Chism improved his ERA to 3.33 while picking up his third victory. In 24.1 innings he has allowed just nine earned runs and 23 hits. He has also struck out 19 while walking just five. Opponents are batting a light .250 against Chism this season.

In five games last week Green hit .368 (7-for-19) with three runs scored, a double, two home runs, nine RBI, a .737 slugging percentage and a .429 on-base percentage. After going 1-for-6 in a doubleheader loss to Illinois State during the midweek, Green hit .462 (6-for-13) over the weekend as the Cougars swept Murray State to improve to 7-2 in the OVC and move into a tie for first place. In the series opener he was 2-for-4 with his first career grand slam as well as a solo shot in a 6-2 SIUE victory. On Saturday his two-run single in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Cougars won 3-1. The junior capped the week by going 3-for-5 with a double and RBI in an 8-0 victory.
