CollegeBaseballInsider.com names Chism Central Region Pitcher of the Week

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Just a few days before he gets ready for another start for the Tennessee Tech baseball team, junior starter Chris Chism is still being recognized for his last performance on the mound, garnering CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Central Region Pitcher of the Week honors Thursday afternoon.

Chism struck out a career-best 10 batters in hurling a one-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory over UT Martin on Sunday. The right hander allowed only a double in the seventh inning while hitting three batters and not walking anybody in improving to 3-0 on the season. Chism retired the final seven batters of the game while becoming just the sixth TTU player to throw a one-hitter in program history.

He also became just the second Golden Eagle to accomplish a one-hitter in at least nine innings. The nine-inning feat had not been accomplished since 1975 when Ralph Mallicoat did it against Milligan College.

On the year, Chism improved his ERA to 3.33 while picking up his third victory. In 24.1 innings he has allowed just nine earned runs and 23 hits. He has also struck out 19 while walking just five. Opponents are batting a light .250 against Chism this season.
