COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Already honored earlier this year as one of the best players in the nation after being named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, Tennessee Tech shortstop Dylan Bosheers found himself mentioned among the best at his position as he was recently named to the watch list for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award.
A junior from Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Bosheers has started every game of his Golden Eagle career, and has proven throughout to be one of the better defenders from the very start. He has put it all together this season, batting .376 with 85 hits, 65 runs scored, 54 RBI, 14 doubles, 10 home runs, and eight stolen bases. He has made just eight errors for a .968 fielding percentage in 57 games this season.
Bosheers was also named to the Midseason Brooks Wallace Award Watch List last season after posting then-career numbers both offensively and defensively. In his career he has been named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Freshman Team, All-OVC Second Team, and most recently the All-OVC First Team. Earlier this season, Bosheers was named OVC Player of the Week after putting up huge numbers in a sweep of Jacksonville State.
"It is not only the skills demonstrated on the field, but how these players represent themselves off the field which is what makes the Brooks Wallace Award so powerful," said Steve Mikolajczak, team sports division manager, Mizuno USA. "The group of players nominated for the award represent what it means to be a top baseball player and teammate."
The Brooks Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation's top shortstop and will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on June 28 in Lubbock, Texas.
"These guys have played in so many games and had so many chances at their position that such a high fielding percentage is impressive," said Tyler Young, Wallace Award co-chair. "Many of their seasons are continuing with postseason play, and, while that's not necessarily a factor in determining a winner, it will be fun to see their continued success."
