COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech men and women's cross country teams are ready to get back in action on Friday at the Azalea City Classic in Mobile, Ala.

"The Azalea City Classic will be another stepping stone in the process of Tech preparing for the OVC championships," head coach Wayne Angel said. "We will use this meet as an opportunity to evaluate our progress and fitness. We want to do things in this competition that will allow us to continue to build on the success of last week's Golden Eagle Invitational. Everyone is healthy, we are fit, and training has been going well. I am excited to see how we will do on Friday."

Joining the Golden Eagles will be teams of Southeastern Louisiana University, Troy University, Florida A&M University, Alabama State University, Miles College, and host South Alabama.

Pacing the Golden Eagle men's cross country team will be Gilbert Boit. Boit recently took home adidas® OVC Male Runner of the Week honors on Sept. 6. Last weekend at the Golden Eagle Invitational presented by Hometown IGA, Boit beat out all other runners from schools of Purdue, Western Kentucky, and Alabama State with a 6K time of 18:33.7, breaking a Tennessee Tech school record in the process. Boit's time was also the top 6K time in the OVC last week, clocking in nearly 40 seconds faster than any other runner in the conference.

Leading the way on the women's side is newcomer Micayla Rennick. Rennick was the top finisher for the Tech team last weekend at the Golden Eagle Invitational presented by Hometown IGA, placing seventh overall with a time of 18:53.9.

The women's 6K will begin at 5:15 p.m., and the men's 8K will follow with a 5:45 p.m. shotgun start at The Grounds of Mobile.
