COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—After becoming the first man in Tennessee Tech school history to claim the Ohio Valley Conference men's cross country title, Gilbert Boit was presented with his OVC Championship ring on Tuesday afternoon alongside Director of Athletics Mark Wilson and head coach Wayne Angel.

Boit claimed his first place finish in the men's 8,000-meter race, claiming Tech's first OVC individual men's cross country title ever, and first program title since former women's cross country runner Stephanie Place finished first in 2008. He beat out a field of 90 runners across the 12 league teams with an 8K time of 24:20.9, clocking in 10 seconds faster than the next runner from Eastern Kentucky.

Boit has also made his mark in the Golden Eagle's record books, holding the top four 8k times in school history. He was selected as the OVC's Male Freshman Cross Country Runner of the Year, as well as received Male Athlete of the Championship and All-OVC first team accolades. Boit just missed out on advancing to the NCAA Championships when he placed 11th at the NCAA South Regionals with a 10k time of 30:45.1, which was the highest finish of any other runner from an Ohio Valley Conference school on the men or women's side and earned him a place on the All-Region team.
