Arizona State hands Golden Eagles first loss of 2019 campaign

TEMPE, Ariz. – A potent attack was too much to overcome for the Tennessee Tech soccer team Friday evening, as the Golden Eagles fell to one of the hottest-scoring team's in the nation in the form of Arizona State, 7-1.

The Sun Devils, who came into the contest ranked in the top-five in the nation in scoring at 5.50 goals per game, showed the depth of its offense with seven different players scoring. Arizona State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half, but Tech answered with a tally of its own.

In the 29th minute, sophomore defender Natalie Rolen notched the first goal of her young career, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Golden Eagle offense racked up five of its six shots in the match in the opening 45 minutes.

ASU collected one more tally in the closing 30 seconds of the first half, taking a 4-1 lead into the break. The home team posted three more goals in the 52nd, 61st and 78th minutes to earn the 7-1 victory.

In all, the Sun Devils posted 23 shots, including 12 on goal, while Tech goalkeeper Isabelle Austin made five saves on the night.

The Golden Eagles will stay in Tempe, Ariz. for a Sunday match-up with Arizona at 1:00 p.m.
