COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fresh off a successful signing day that saw five incoming freshmen make the decision to join the Tennessee Tech soccer team, the Golden Eagles and head coach Steve Springthorpe have added another key piece to the 2020 TTU puzzle.

Selma Askildsen, an incoming freshman from Hosle, Norway, will join the Golden Eagles in the fall, bringing with her a wealth of international experience thanks to a resume loaded with high-level club involvement throughout her days in Norway.

"We are excited that Selma has chosen TTU as her school to continue her playing career and her education," Tech head coach Steve Springthorpe said. "Selma is a high-level thinking player that has played in some of the top ranks of soccer in Norway. We feel that she will fit well within our style of play here at Tennessee Tech, as we aspire to continue to develop a type of play that is attractive to watch and will allow our team to compete for the OVC championship."

Suiting up for Ovrevoll Hosle Idrettslag (OEHIL) for over 10 years, the largest and most historic soccer club in Norway, Askildsen has taken aim in a slew of prestigious regional, national and international tournaments. Among the highlights, Askildsen's teams have won the Hadeland Cup, the Barcelona Cup, and the Notodden Cup, as well as taken home a regional title and finished second in the Norway Cup.

"Selma will have the potential to fill one of our center back positions and help us become a better defensive unit in the near future," Springthorpe said. "Along with adding a great player to the team, we have also brought aboard a student-athlete that is strong academically and will be able to fit in well with our school's competitive academic environment. Again, we are excited to have Selma join our team this fall."

OEHIL is located in Baerum, Norway, close to 20 miles from Oslo. Routinely playing with athletes significantly older, Askildsen participated in the first and second senior division in Norway, which is part of the national league.
