Soccer team caps off non-conference play with a home game against Radford

Weekly Game Notes

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With a challenging OVC schedule just ahead, the Tennessee Tech women's soccer team will host the Radford Highlanders for "Purple Out" – the last home contest before a four game road stint – on Saturday at 1 p.m. Fans attending are encouraged to pack the pitch wearing as much purple as possible for the occasion.

The team is coming back from 10 days of rest following a devastating double overtime loss to Louisiana Tech on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Heading into conference play next week, the Golden Eagles will look to narrow the gap in their 2-6 record with Saturday's match-up.

Tech owns the lifetime series over Radford, who is an even 4-4 on their season, having defeated the Highlanders three times of the five meetings. The two opponents last met in 2003, when Tech took the 2-1 victory. Hoping to build on a three-game win streak – the Golden Eagles also notched wins in the 2002 and 2001 seasons – TTU will face Radford as they come to Cookeville with three straight losses to Old Dominion, American University and Longwood.

"We've had a really enlightening non-conference schedule so far," said first year coach Daniel Brizard. "This last non-conference game is going to give us an opportunity to use what we've learned over these past eight games to come together as a team for a win before we hit the OVC.

"UNC-Asheville already gave us a taste of the Big South Conference, and we know that Radford is an opponent that's not to be underestimated. We'll need to put forth a united effort from the first minute to the last to come away with a victory," Brizard continued.

Following the Radford game, the Golden Eagles will hit the road for two straight weekends, first heading to Kentucky for the first weekend in October to take on Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky.
