Soccer wraps up regular season play hosting Jacksonville and Austin Peay this weekend

Weekly Game Notes

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Having put on one of their finest combined performances of the year this past weekend, Tennessee Tech soccer will look to ride the momentum into this weekend as they take on the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and the Governors of Austin Peay in Sunday's 2 p.m. match.

Two wins this weekend could potentially send the Golden Eagles to post-season tournament play.

The Gamecocks will come to Cookeville on Friday with a 3-13-1 record, 1-6 in the OVC including three straight losses to Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. Jacksonville will be looking to rebound this weekend at Tech, as they own a 1-4-3 lifetime record against the Golden Eagles.

Over the past three years, Tech has a 1-1-1 record against the Gamecocks, who currently sit just behind the Golden Eagles in OVC standings. Kick-off is schedule for 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

On Sunday, the Golden Eagles will take on no. 4 in the conference, the APSU Governors. The Govs split their games last weekend, falling to Morehead in a one goal shutout, but are riding a 1-0 win over Eastern Kentucky at home.

The Golden Eagles notoriously do well against the Govs, having built up a 7-1 record between 2002 and 2009 and scoring three times as many goals as APSU over that time span (15-5). Their only loss came in 2005 under head coach Carrie Proost.

"We really want to end our regular season on a high note," said first-year coach Daniel Brizard. "Our first step will be to snap the 1-1-1 even record that has accumulated over the past few years against Jacksonville. History shows that it's going to be an extremely even match-up, but I feel that our team has the ability to pull through and get the win on Friday.

"Austin Peay will be another tough competitor," Brizard continued. "They've done well this season against some notable conference opponents. They just took down no. 2 Eastern Kentucky last weekend, and held up a tie with Murray State a few weeks ago. The Govs are going to provide a challenge for us, for sure."
