BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A pair of individual titles and four PRs highlighted an impressive showing for Tech track and field on Saturday at the Bulldog Invitational to close out the indoor regular season.
"All-round, that was a really strong meet for the team," expressed head coach Peter Dalton. "Most importantly, we are heading into conference week with a lot of confidence and numerous season-best performances. We're really proud of the athlete's diligence and attitude."
Senior Lisa Wickham posted her third record-breaking performance of the season. She shattered the Tennessee Tech 60-meter dash school record with a blazing 7.25-second run. Her performance surpassed her previous career-best and school record by three-hundredths of a second, as well as set a new meet record for the Samford Invitational.
Ceirra Tate and Lyn'Nikka Vance also turned in strong performances in the 60m finals. Tate posted a personal-best with a third-place finish with a time of 7.51. Lyn'Nikka Vance finished sixth in the field after turning in a 7.55-second performance.
Jesang claimed the event title in the 3,000-meter run as she posted a personal-best time of 10:08.44. Fellow freshman Rahab Sawe also claimed a top-10 finish, crossing ninth with a time of 11:07.21.
Tech also had an impressive showing in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:29.02, led by Chanel Bishop, Bryana Brown, Alexa Brugere, and Jazulin Zachary.
In the field events, both Jalena Curbeam and Keyanna Word posted personal-bests in the long jump and weight throw, respectively.
Curbeam claimed personal-best in the long jump, posting an impressive 4.97m (16' 4") leap. Word also claimed a personal-best in the weight throw, tossing 9.95m (32' 8").
