Golden Eagles close out indoor regular season at Bulldog Invitational Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech track and field team returns to action on Saturday for its final regular season meet of the indoor season as the program heads to Birmingham, Ala. for the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Samford University.

Action at the Birmingham CrossPlex begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Only the women's high jump, men's weight throw, and men's and women's 200m dash will be completed on Friday. On Saturday, events will begin at 9 a.m. Field events will open with the women's weight throw, while the track events will start with the women's 5,000m.

Along with the Golden Eagles and host Samford Bulldogs, this weekend's field will include Alabama State, Azusa Pacific, Belmont, Emory, Furman, Georgia Southern, Hinds Community College, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, McNeese State, University of New Orleans, South Alabama, South Carolina State, University of Alabama Birmingham, and University of Louisiana Lafayette.

The last time out, the Purple and Gold competed at the Buccaneer Invite. Four Golden Eagles won individual titles during the two-day meet.

Senior Lisa Wickham and freshman Lyn'Nikka Vance led the way for the Golden Eagles with record-breaking performances.

Wickham produced an impressive 7.28-second performance in the 60-meter dash, claiming at the time, the No. 12 best time in the nation and shattering the school record for the second time this season.

Vance posted an impressive 6.01m (19' 8 ¾") leap in the long jump to win the event and break the school record as the first Golden Eagle to surpass the six-meter mark during her second-ever collegiate meet. She also had a great showing in the 60-meter dash, finishing second, only behind Wickham, with a time of 7.51 seconds.

The Golden Eagles will take a week off as they prepare for the OVC Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on Wednesday, February 26 and Thursday, February 27 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
