Dalton adds final piece to inaugural coaching staff in assistant coach Kimour Bruce

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech track & field/cross country head coach Peter Dalton added the finishing touches to his coaching staff on Monday with the addition of Kimour Bruce.

"I am really excited to welcome coach Bruce to the team," expressed head coach Peter Dalton. "Kimour's passion and knowledge really stood out during the hiring process. His background as a national champion and All-American, along with his recruiting and coaching resume, will ensure that our student-athletes benefit greatly from his experience."

Bruce comes to the Golden Eagles after serving most recently at Newberry College as the Wolves' track and field head coach and cross country assistant coach. He helped revitalize the Wolves track and field program after an over 70-year hiatus after the program was shuttered in 1940. Bruce worked as the director of operations for both the track and field and cross country programs, coaching the throwing events, horizontal and vertical jumps, sprints, hurdles, middle distance, and cross country.

Prior to heading the track and field program at Newberry, Bruce served as the assistant coach at Coker College from 2015 to 2017. He worked with sprints, jumps, hurdles, middle distance, multis, and relays. Bruce coached one conference champion, nine all-conference selections and seven new records with the Cobras.

Bruce's previous coaching role was as a graduate assistant coach at Adams State University. With the Grizzlies, he helped coach five All-Americans and two national champions. He helped lead ASU to a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference outdoor championship in 2014, as well as an indoor national championship title in 2015. He also helped coach the Grizzlies cross country program to a 2014 RMAC championship title, in addition to the NCAA DII cross country national champion and an NCAA DII women's cross country third-place finisher.

Before joining the Grizzlies coaching staff, Bruce began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at Lincoln University. With the Blue Tigers, Bruce coached 10 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champions and four NCAA national champions. He also helped coach Lincoln to a pair of NCAA DII outdoor track and field runner-up finishes. He also coached Lincoln's first-ever woman cross country student-athlete to earn a trip to the NCAA cross country championships.

Not only has Bruce had a prolific coaching career, but he was also a phenomenal collegiate athlete at Lincoln. During his collegiate years, he was a twelve-time All-American and seven-time NCAA Division II National Champion at Lincoln University. He also holds the MIAA records in the 60-meter dash and the 4x100-meter with times of 6.62 and 39.98 seconds, respectively.

Bruce received his bachelor's degree in European history with a minor in philosophy from Lincoln University in 2011. He went on to earn a master's in health administration from Adams State in 2013.
