Golden Eagles fall twice at Southeast Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Tennessee Tech took a 3-2 lead in game one, but Southeast Missouri rallied to take a 5-3 victory, then claimed a 4-1 win in the night cap to sweep the Golden Eagles on Saturday.

The series concludes at noon on Sunday as the Golden Eagles (15-16, 6-8 Ohio Valley Conference)

Carmen Betts went 2-for-4 in the opener with two RBI, while Mac Fitzgerald was 2-for-4 with a run scored and one driven in. Fitzgerald also went 2-for-4 in the second game with a run scored, driven in by Abby Shoulders.

SEMO scored first as Kat Sackett drove in Abigail Rickermann and Aubrie Shore with a single to center field. Tech countered with all three of its runs in the top of the third inning as Fitzgerald singled in S.J. Talley with a single to left, then Betts drove in Jordan Key and Fitzgerald with a single to center field.

The Redhawks scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth as Marissa Peek drove in Rickermann with a single to right. Kynzie Wrigley drew a bases-loaded walk to send Paige Halliwill home, then Sophie Schupp crossed the plate on a batted ball from Tori Bradley on a fielder's choice.

Lennon Spicer took the loss, allowing four runs over four innings on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Emily York threw the final two frames, allowing one run on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Paytience Holman threw the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and walking three. Maddie Carney claimed the victory in the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit.

In game two, Peek hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, then drove in a run with a single to right in the bottom of the third. SEMO made it a 4-0 game in the bottom of the fifth as Tatum Gerwitz brought Schupp in on a double to left center.

Tech scored its lone run in the top of the sixth as Fitzgerald scored on Shoulders' grounder to third.

Payton Wagner took the loss, going six complete frames as she allowed one earned run – four total – on 10 hits, walking two and striking out three.

Tegan Livesay earned the complete-game victory as she allowed one run on five hits, walking two and striking out five.
