COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A can-do attitude and a tremendous work ethic can go a long way. The Tennessee Tech softball team was witness to that with the efforts from Jordan Key, a recent graduating senior for the Golden Eagles.

"Jordan is a fantastic young lady," said Tech head softball coach Danielle Penner. "She bleeds purple and gold. She has been an exemplary representative of Tennessee Tech softball. Her work ethic and value system align with the best of the best and I can't think of a better recipient."

On the field, Key has been a leader and strong example for her Golden Eagle teammates.

"Jordan came out early every day to do some extra hitting," Penner said. "She's the first to help take mats on and off the field and someone the other players go to for advice."

Key helped out the Tech Department of Athletics with its Education Day event in December, while also organizing a community service at Northeast Elementary School late in the academic year. During the event, the team showed up to support the students on testing day, while also providing extra motivation for the students through decorations on the campus.

Through her work on- and off-the-field, Key was an easy selection for the 2024 May Unsung Leader Award presented by Golden Oak Sedation Dental & Implant Center.

The Unsung Leader Award is selected from student-athletes who have been nominated by their coaching staff or members of the TTU Athletics Department for exemplifying outstanding leadership qualities during a given month. The leadership can be shown on the field, in the weight room, at practice, in the classroom, in study hall, on campus, in the community or for a student club or organization.

The award honors varsity student-athletes who have made a positive impact on their team and the Tech community as a whole, through their dedication to demonstrating leadership traits, such as:

  • Keep learning, growing and improving;
  • Follow through with excellence;
  • Accomplish more than expected;
  • Inspire and motivate others.
